Controlling your TV with your voice sounds like something out of the future but Google Home has made that a reality.
Google Home, the new voice activated home assistant, can control what you watch on TV whether it’s a YouTube video, Netflix show or a new series on HBO. The setup could not be easier because it’s all done through the Google Home app. Simply connect your Chromecast and make sure to give it a unique name like “Living Room” or “Bedroom” so you can specify where you want the content to play. Then, link your account with Netflix, HBO or any other services you’d like to connect with. After that’s done, you can tell Google Home to play video content on your TV by saying “Ok Google, play recommended videos from YouTube on Living Room,” or “Ok Google, play Narcos on Bedroom.”
Connecting Google Home to your TV is another key advantage Google has over Amazon Echo. Google already has their Chromecast devices in millions of TV’s and making it smart by connecting Home is a revolutionary step forward in smart home technology. Echo cannot connect to your TV and even if they add this functionality, they are way behind Google in number of TV’s with the Fire TV stick installed. Google is trying to be the smarts that controls all things in your home and this is a huge step towards that goal.
The combination of these two devices could also change the way that TV’s are manufactured and sold. The smart TV is no longer necessary if you have Google Home and Chromecast which makes dumb TV’s smart at a much lower price point. Google would like TV manufacturers to focus on building great screens at affordable prices without the smarts. That would be beneficial to both Google and consumers alike.
